A boutique rosé producer

OUR MISSION

Elmie Rosé is the product of a long-held dream to produce a wine of true elegance and verve from the granitic terroirs of Stellenbosch.

Together, husband and wife, Etienne and Lizanda Terblanche, set out to showcase a side of Pinotage that is not considered the norm.

Striving to weave the subtle thread of place from soil to glass, and only working with small parcels and winemaking on boutique-scale, the petit Maison Terblanche could be the smallest Rosé specialist in South Africa, if not the world!

in pursuit of purity

OUR WINE

We strive to produce an elegant and distinctively Cape-style Rosé exclusively from Pinotage, South Arica’s champion native grape.

The grapes undergo gentle whole bunch pressing before natural fermentation, in a combination of stainless steel and oak vats, followed by ageing on the lees for ten months before bottling.

The wine is marked by a pale colour with onion skin hues providing the backdrop to subtle aromas of rose and melon. On the palate firm texture provides the runway for a light and refreshing flavourful finish.

Location is everything

THE VINEYARDS

Helderberg – Grown by father and son combo, De Waal Koch Snr and Jnr, we are privileged to be working with this heritage dryland Pinotage vineyard, which was planted in 1974. Located just 7 km from False Bay, this vineyard profits from cool sea breezes during the growing season. Pale, coarse granitic soils maintain vigor balance, ensuring thick skins that lead to ample texture in the finished wine.

Simonsberg – This Pinotage vineyard, planted in 1980 and grown by Guillaume Kotze, is perched high on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. Soils are a mélange of granite and sandstone, deep enough to allow for dry farming. We believe the southerly aspect and elevation of 320 m allow for slow ripening, giving rise to abundant fresh fruit and flinty notes in the finished wine.
